The Times is running a blog feature this week called “Ask a Train Operator,” featuring Dennis H. Boyd of the 4 line (my fav). So he’s not a mailman — those of you who know me may be familiar with my of awe of the U.S. postal system — but weren’t you wondering why conductors make so many garbled announcements, or how much pressure it takes to activate the ‘dead man’s throttle’? This Mr. Boyd appears to be an expert; he’s been with the MTA since I was -2 years old!

The first answers were posted today; nothing earth-shattering and everything overly- edited and bland quaint. But a fun little feature just the same.
